At my exit off US 85 flies the largest Confederate battle flag in South Carolina.

I salute it every time I go by.

It's insidious and evil to denounce anyone because of their ancestors. If the LCMS chooses to go down this road they'd better be careful, our High Priest has some shady forebearers: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba.

A great article and read. As a lover of history, I hate how the wholeness of any war is never truly taught.

Thank you. Few of our members wish to remember C. F. Walther's opposition to the Federal invasion of the South.

I really appreciate this piece as a Virginian. It's such a huge and unique piece of Southern heritage and history. For 4+ years the Confederate states were a sovereign nation. Our founders certainly believed that states had a right to seceed, and I believe they were correct.

It was published in a LCMS oficial publication of which I have a copy stashed somewhere, but can not put my finger on it. It was a letter disuading a pastor from Ohio , I believe, from

supporting the invasion.

Well written and informative….visiting Vicksburg once I visited the park. I was surprised by all of memorials to union forces. Asking the park guide, her reply centered that she hoped the memorials to the union troops inscribed with the names of the fallen had been substantially during the War of Northern Aggression. I was fortunate to have Southern teachers of American history that taught Southern History in Texas.

Fine article. Thank you.

The confederacy owes no apology to the yankee occupation force. We should instead honor John Wilkes Booth day on May 10.

That flag holds a special meaning to me, and I'm not even Southern, I've been a Midwesterner my whole life.

To me it means that someone is proud of his history, even when the world doesn't want him to be. Fly that flag proudly!!
